The carnation was purple, and I don’t know why you’d think otherwise. Yeah, Mom’s spinning out over Maggie leaving school, but this photography apprenticeship sounds like a good gig.
You’re not boring, by the way, but you sound bored. And Poland sounds really boring, so it’ll be interesting to see if you can do something with that to make it pop on the evening news. Not that I’ll be watching. No offense I just hate the news. And don’t take that personally either.
I let Greta take me out with her and some of her friends last night and I drank too much, made some questionable choices, just like you wanted me to, so don’t you worry. I’m keeping myself entertained.

Subject: Missed you
Sorry I missed you while I was home. Work had me busy in a way I wasn’t expecting. Now that I won’t be back awhile I feel bad I didn’t try harder to connect with you. Where were you staying? Did you get a new place? And how’d I miss that?’

If you reference the email I sent you approximately four weeks and four days ago, you’ll notice I mentioned I was looking at a loft in the Bronx. Ended up it’s perfect and I can try this whole sculpting thing for real now. Sorry I missed you, too, but what did we expect, right?

Ouch. Did you mean to clock my jaw like that? Look, I’m sorry. The truth is I met someone while I was home. Went on a couple of dates, and I didn’t want to bug you because I know you’ve got a lot going on. I did forget about the loft though. I’ll do better. Tell me about it. Do you like it? Can you send pictures?

Engaged, huh? That was fun hearing from Mom. When were you planning to tell me? I hope you don’t forget to invite me to the wedding. Just to clarify: are we friends still, or was that just a fever dream?

I’m not engaged. Yet. I’m going to propose when I come home for Thanksgiving. I also would like to see you and introduce you to Nicole, because I think you’ll like her, and also she’s pregnant, so there’s that, too. And you’re the first person I’ve told about that, so if you don’t mind keeping it between us for now, I’d appreciate it. So you tell me, just to clarify—are we friends?
