Comp's Chance

“What was that, Hunny?” Grim asks, coming up beside me and placing his hand on my shoulder.

“Nix, he was taken because of me. He was tortured because of me. He almost died because of me.” I get out a sob before losing it.

This is my fault. All of this. I brought this trouble down on the club. I put their lives in danger. I almost got the man I’m falling for killed.

I know what I have to do. It will take some time to plan and execute my thoughts, but I will take care of this shit. I will make this right.

“Where is Nix now?” I ask, wanting to see him with my own eyes. I need to know what that bastard did to him.

“They have to wait until tomorrow to transfer him here. They have a medic on their team, and Grim is leaving tonight to meet up with him so we can get him home safely.”

“They didn’t take him to the hospital?” I ask, outraged. I expect Swift to get impatient or mad at my tone, but he looks atme with soft eyes. If I didn’t know any better, I would think he knows how deep my feelings run for his brother.

“Right now, your ex thinks he’s dead. We want to keep it that way for as long as possible. We don’t want him trying to finish the job or shut Comp up. I promise we are taking very good care to get him back safely,” Swift says, placing his hand on my shoulder and squeezing it quickly before turning around and leaving the common area.

I turn and head back to my room in a daze. I need a bit of alone time. I have too much shit to think about. More importantly, I have a plan to perfect. If Jason thinks he can get away with hurting the people trying to save me, he’s delusional. He’s about to realize I’m not that same naïve, scared little teenager he took advantage of anymore.

I’m his worst fucking nightmare.

COMP

“Well, Comp, it’s been fun, man, but your brothers are here. I know you said you got a girl back home, but if it doesn’t work out… call me!” one of the twins, I think it’s Taz, says while holding his fingers to his ear and winking at me. I roll my eyes but give them a head nod before watching Grim and Grease get into the van.

“We’re going to have to switch vehicles. You okay to be moved?” Grim asks, looking me over. The medic from Ghost’s team fixed me up pretty good.

“Get me the hell out of here,” I tell my brothers. I’m tired, in pain, and just want to be fucking home.

“Fuck, where’s my bike?” I ask.

“It’s already back at the compound. Stay the fuck down. You were shot, stabbed, tortured, and carved up like a fucking thanksgiving turkey. Sit. Back,” Grease tells me, and I’ve never really heard that tone from him. Usually, he’s the one making a smart-ass comment to break the tension, but I can tell right now he’s dead fucking serious.

“When the fuck did you go to school for an MD?” I retort back. He gives me a death glare before Grim chuckles, then speaks up.

“Don’t worry,” Grim says, pricking me with a needle. When the fuck did he pull that out? As a matter of fact, where the fuck did he pull that from? I open my mouth when a wave of dizziness takes over. “That should knock him out until we get him home and in bed,” he says, and the last thing I see is a relieved smile cross his face.

The next time I wake, I’m in a dark room. I can barely make anything out, but it looks like my bed. Feels like my bed, and I swear I can smell Sunny’s fresh sunshine scent. I take a deep breath and notice movement on my right side. Sunny is sitting in a chair, curled in on herself. She looks so uncomfortable I can’t stand it. I look around again, and I notice a pallet on the floor. All three kids are lying on an air mattress next to my bed. I smile down at them just as I hear the door quietly open. Halle peeks in, but when she sees me awake, she smiles.

“Well fucking finally, we’ve been worried about you. The kids refused to sleep anywhere else. So did your woman over there,” she says pointedly, looking at Sunny.

“She isn’t my woman,” I say automatically, but a tiny voice in my head mutters, yet.

Halle looks at me with a furious glare. “She has been worried sick about you since we found out what happened. You hurt her, and I’ll kick your ass from here to hell,” she says, placing her hands on her hips. I want to say something else, but what is there to say?

“Fine,” Halle huffs. “Since she ain’t your woman, the girls and I can take her to Devil’s Crossroads for girls’ night and find her a cowboy. I saw her reading a book earlier that had some hot as fuck shirtless cowboy on the cover…”

“Enough,” I growl, not able to stand the thought of Sunny near another fucker, much less watching those fucking pretty boy prospects dance on the bar, barely dressed.

I hear a gasp from my bedside, and I realize I yelled a bit too loudly and woke up Sunny. She looks back and forth between Halle and me, noticing the tension. Then I see Halle smirk at me and raise a brow. She played me, and I fell for it. I would have realized it was all a lie if I had been in my right mind. No way in hell Loki would let his woman within five miles of that bar, especially on ladies’ night. Halle smiles widely before turning to Sunny.

“I just came in to check on the kids and make sure y’all didn’t need anything before heading to the house. Want me to grab the twins?” Halle asks, looking at Sunny. She shakes her head no.

“It’s fine. I’ll keep them tonight. I can move them to my room,” Sunny says, getting up. Loki rushes into the room seconds later.

“House all to ourselves, fuck baby! Chair, tied down, murder wall…. We need to get the fuck outta here,” he says, bending quickly, tossing Halle over his shoulder, and hauling ass out of the room. Sunny giggles, and I can’t help the smile on my face. She has a beautiful smile. She turns back to look at me.

“How are you feeling? Do you need water or anything? I don’t know if you can eat, but I can ask Grim. He was in here not too…”
