Later in the evening, we rest at the river where I had myfirst change. Ebony has her head up, taking in all the smells and listening toevery snap of a twig or bird sound.
Dusk licks the side of my face affectionately and I lick herback. She rolls over onto her back and pulls the fur on Troy. A few minutespass with Troy and Dusk playing around the river’s edge.
Ebony lays her chin on her paws and watches the two wolvesplay fighting. The sound of the river gently flowing past has both Ebony andmyself drifting into sleep.
I don’t know how long we sleep, but a wolf smell wakes usand Ebony lifts her head before standing and on full alert. Troy stands andwalks to our side, also listening and sniffing.
Because we are not a pack and they are not truly my family,we cannot link to speak telepathically. I can see Lykos and Akela speaking toeach other as they both have the far-away look in their eyes.
A small, mottled wolf enters the clearing with a brown wolfbehind. They walk over towards us and Troy growls loudly, taking a step infront of Dusk and Ebony.
Watching a change happening to the two wolves is interestingas they seem to take minutes to change from wolf to shifter. I hear bonescracking and reforming and when they both change; they are standing naked, which takes me by surprise, because why would they not change fully clothed? SeeingFragina and a male, I don’t recognize, I’m thinking, what the heck do theywant?
I flick my eyes to Lykos, who shifts twice as fast as thetwo had, and he shifts with his clothes appearing. He steps forward but Duskand Ebony remain where we are; I notice Dusk is flicking her ears, listeningfor anything, and she’s still scenting. I do the same as she’s obviously onalert and Ebony, although a new wolf, she’s a powerful one.
“What are you two doing here?” Lykos snarls.
“Just out for a stroll.” Fragina coyly replies, which Duskdoesn’t like, as she gives a deep rumbling growl.
“You’re too close to my property, again why are you here?”
The male with Fragina smirks. “We’re not on your property. We can run wherever we want as long as we don’t cross onto other rogues claimedland. Why are you out here and bringing the mutt with you?”
Ebony doesn’t enjoy being called a mutt, and she stepsforward, eyes squinting, ears pinned back to her skull, and she shows every oneof her teeth plus all her gums. She must look pretty fierce as Fragina and themale take a small step back, which shows I’m more dominant.
Stepping next to Lykos, Ebony continues to growl and showher teeth. Dusk steps up to the other side of Lykos, both of us showing himsupport and also showing these two we are not threatened by them.
“What do you really want, Fragina? And why are you followingalong, Jax? You never come out here, so let’s get to the truth, shall we?”Lykos snarls, and I can hear a hint of Troy in his voice.
“We want her gone. She shouldn’t be in our town or amongstus. She’ll bring the Blackshadow Pack to the town, and then the shiftercouncil.” Fragina snaps, curling her lip when she looks at Ebony.
Lykos throws his head back, laughing at Fragina, which Inotice she doesn’t like at all. “You are telling us that a rogue can’t live ina rogue town? Are you really that stupid?”
Dusk quickly shifts back to Akela, who also changed with herclothes, so I presume these two don’t give a shit that they are showing theworld their naked bodies.
“You are just a piece of trash, just like your mother was,”Akela tells Fragina as she steps towards her, then turns to Jax. “Suppose yourfather doesn’t know you’re hanging out with this bitch, but he will know assoon as I cross paths with him. I’ll love to see how you walk when he’s givenyou a strapping.”
“Fuck off, Akela. Who do you think you’re speaking to?” Jaxsnarls and before my next blink, Lykos is changed to Troy, and he has Jaxpinned to the ground snarling in his face, saliva dripping onto him.
Fragina squealed, but Akela is nearly at her when she shiftsback to her wolf form. Dusk now doesn’t stop and has Fragina half pinnedbeneath her in mid-shift and has her mouth around Fragina’s neck.
I’m standing in awe at what I’m watching because Lykos andAkela are mild people. You would never expect them to attack another. WhenFragina and Jax submit by remaining still, Troy steps away still growling, before changing back.
Dusk however, stays with Fragina pinned underneath her, eventhough Fragina is changing back to her human form.
“Dusk, step away. Akela come forward.” Lykos demands.
We three are standing once more in front of these two whohave picked themselves up and are scowling at us.
Fragina snarls. “I’m bringing it up again to the council andat the next town meeting. The shifter council will want to know about a female Alphatoo.”
“If you open your mouth, I’ll invoke the ‘old way’for you being a traitor to the town. Think on that when you speak to anycouncil member of either the town or shifter council.” Lykos states quietly.
“Fragina, let me tell you if you contact any council or anypack about Tati, you’ll answer for it. The town has voted for her to stay andhas decided if you betray her, or the town, you will pay. Now it’s up to you.Jax, do you want to die at the hands of the town because this bitch wants to bethe top bitch in a town that isn’t even a pack?” Akela stares at both of them, not dropping her eyes even a fraction. Showing her dominance she has them bothwriggling before they both turn and run back into the forest, showing theirnaked asses to us as they run.
“She’s going to be a problem. I’ll speak to Thomas and seewhat he wants to do, but I’ll also have the same conversation with Flint. Nowcome on, we need to get back. Flint will be here in the morning and we need agood night’s rest.” Lykos waits for Akela to change back to Dusk before we allthree head back to the farmhouse.
The next morning I’m mucking out the chicken coop and wavingthe pitchfork at Ro every time he tries to peck at me when I see a motorcyclecoming up towards the farmhouse.
