Tease Me (Private Listing #4)

I meet Blake’s green eyes and sigh. “How? Do I have to talk to him alone? What if he tries to grab me?”

Blake glances at Seth. Something passes between them. “We’ll be close and monitoring the situation. We have video in the conference room on the sixth floor but no sound. If he makes one move toward you, get to the door. I’ll be there.”

“You won’t be able to hear us?” I don’t know if that’s smart. What if he says something that proves he’s my stalker?

“We’ll both be down there with you. Can you do this, princess?” Seth searches my eyes.

I want to be strong for them, but all those videos and audio clips… If Robert is the stalker, he would have heard and seen all those things. That anyone heard and saw those private moments makes me cringe and want to hide forever. Not confront them.

It was easy with Hunter because I was positive he wasn’t the stalker but needed to rule him out. Robert, though? They want me to talk to him and find out why he’s here. What if that reason is me?

“Wait, the stalker got in the building using an old employee security card.” I perk up. Robert wouldn’t have that kind of access. So, he couldn’t be the stalker.

“That we shut off after that weekend, love.” Blake stands and pulls me up. “I don’t believe he’s the stalker, but we have to behave as if he is. Just to be safe.”

I nod. I can’t make heads or tails of whether Robert is the stalker. He’s always been kind and a little aggressive about being friendly, but he’s never tried anything. He never even asked me out before. But maybe he wanted to and didn’t think I’d say yes.

I draw in a breath and step into Blake’s arms, wrapping my arm around his waist and blowing out my breath as his arms come around me. I just need a little of his strength and I’ll be good to go.

When I release him and nod, we all three make our way down to the sixth floor. A couple of guys stand outside the door like Robert’s being held prisoner. One opens the door for me as I approach.

When I turn back, both Blake and Seth give me encouraging looks. Seth goes to the security room on this floor to watch the monitor.

“I’ll be right here.” Blake leans against the wall opposite the door.

I want another hug, but this floor is busy with employees. People glance over as they work, trying to figure out what’s going on. If I hugged the boss, word would spread like wildfire.

Someone here might be working with the stalker. They have to be to get the kind of access the stalker has. Which means we need to be extra cautious about giving up too much information.

Taking one more hit of Blake’s green eyes, I turn and enter the conference room. Robert stands looking out the window. His hands are clasped behind his back. He looks like a normal guy.

It takes him a moment to realize I’m in the room. When his intense gaze finds me, my nerves get the better of me. Flinching, I back against the wall.

“Madison, thank goodness you’re all right.” Robert rounds the table.

“Stay there, please.” I hold my shaking hand up to stop him.

He gives me a wounded look. “I’m not here to hurt you.”

“Why are you here?” I wrap my arms around my waist and stand against the wall next to the door, knowing if I pull it open, Blake is right there on the other side. He has me.

“The woman I told you about before. The one that tried to get into your apartment?” Robert’s eyes are a little wild and he gestures as he speaks.

“The brunette.” I nod to encourage him to get to the point.

“Yes, she stopped at my place instead.”

I step closer. “What did she look like?”

“Pretty. Brown hair. Blue eyes.”

Like Hope. Or like Courtney. Or any number of women. She may not even be someone I know.

“She said you were in trouble and I should help you.” He puts his hands on the table between us. “She stressed you needed to escape.”

My brows furrow. “In trouble how?”

“Your bosses. She said they’re using you and you need help to get away from them. She told me about the back door that leads to your place. It’s not safe for you here.” Robert’s voice gets more passionate as he continues, “You’ll get hurt if you stay.”
