“If you want, we can swing by after work and bring her some soup.” Coop steps forward and drags his thumb over my bottom lip. “It’s not too far from here.”
I lift my gaze to his light blue eyes. He would do that for me, help me help my friend. That twinkle of mischief is still in his eyes, but also so much love for me.
“I’ll wait and call Jason back to see how she is.” If she doesn’t want to talk to me while she’s sick, I’m not going to force her to see me. Maybe she just really hates being sick.
Blake steps out of his office. His gaze flicks between Coop and me as he shrugs on his suit jacket.
“Are you heading out?” There’s nothing on his schedule for lunch today.
“Andrea called. Wants to meet and clear the air.” Blake shakes his head and comes over to me. “I couldn’t be happier that she was the bitch she is, because if we hadn’t gone through her, we wouldn’t have you.”
His kiss is warm and filled with love. I swear I’m going to get a contact high from all the love these guys are throwing around.
“I love you, Blake.” I search his green eyes to make sure he believes what I’m telling him.
He gives me a cocky grin. “I know, love. I’ll be back soon.”
Coop draws me back to him as Blake walks away. “Need me to facilitate some more time between you two?”
I press my hands to his chest. Pretty sure Blake and I are on the same page again. But I did enjoy our time together.
“Coop.” Seth steps out of his office. “Theo has something. He wants us to meet him downstairs. Patrick is already waiting for us.”
“To be continued.” Coop kisses me until I’m dizzy with desire. He steps away with a smug smile.
I just shake my head and touch my lips, buzzing from his kiss. Seth’s dark blue eyes meet mine as he straightens his shirt cuffs.
“We’ll be back shortly, princess.” He closes in on me and kisses my cheek. The heady scent of sandalwood fills my senses, making my insides soften. “Noah’s meeting is done in fifteen. The receptionist doesn’t have an access card anymore. You’ll be good? You can come down with us if you want.”
“I’ll be good.” I can’t follow them around all the time. There’s still work to do.
Seth nods and brushes his thumb along my jaw. They make their way to the elevator and disappear inside, leaving me alone. Turning, I look at their office doors, knowing no one is inside them. A little fear trickles down my spine as I step up to Noah’s. He had to go down to the main floor for a meeting with his team.
The phone rings and I jump. I laugh at myself because the only way into this area is the elevator or the emergency stairs. Both doors I can clearly see from my desk.
“This is Madison.” Sitting at my desk, I stare at the elevator. I’m fine up here on my own. I just need to focus on work.
“You have a package at reception.” The receptionist is brief and to the point.
“Okay.” I glance around, wondering if I should leave my desk when no one is up here. “I can be down in fifteen minutes.”
Noah will be back.
“I need you to come get it now. I can’t keep packages at my desk.” She clicks off the connection.
Okay, then. I wanted to be where people are, well, this will work. I grab my purse in case I want to stop at the vending machines on the way back. Suddenly, chocolate sounds great. It feels ridiculous, but I should text the guys what I’m doing in case they come back early.
My phone vibrates as I enter the elevator and press the button for the lobby. I glance down and see it’s a text from Hope. Relief pours through me. Her brother must have told her I’m worried about her. Thank goodness.
I open it as the elevator descends, but it’s an audio file. I press Play.
“Be a good girl.” The modulated voice from my nightmares comes out of my phone’s speakers. My pulse quickens. “Tell Madison what’s going to happen to you if she doesn’t come to me.”
“Madison? Madison, don’t come it’s a trap!” A loud slap sounds and Hope cries out. I flinch like he hit me.
“Stupid girl. If you don’t want your friend to end up like Valerie, you’ll take the box and go to your old apartment. The key is in the box. Further instructions will be provided there.”
My hands tremble and my stomach twists.
