I’m beyond caring about Andrea at this point. “She got her payout and her payback. If you don’t know where she is, I can always sic Cross on her.”
Everyone here knows about Cross and what he can do. We’ve needed his help before on a couple of projects. He’s smart but brutal.
Courtney’s eyes narrow. “What do you want from her?”
“I have some questions.” Am I angry at Andrea for making Madison a target? Yes, but I’m not going to tell Courtney that. “There are some things we need to go over for closure.”
She looks skeptical, but then she caves. “Fine. I can give you her cell phone number and she can decide if she wants to meet with you or not.”
Madison
Monday feels like every other day. There were a few text messages with the girls on Sunday evening about arranging to have dinner together on Thursday. The guys were less than enthused about my plan to go alone with Hope, Sara, and Kayla, but Blake said he’d make sure we were taken care of.
We had a quick lunch at our desks to keep up with work today. When I glance at the time, it’s almost four. I stand and stretch. When I glance into Seth’s open door, he’s on the phone. He lifts an eyebrow at me in question.
I point at my nonexistent watch to indicate the time. When he looks down at his computer, he nods and mouths, I love you. A smile spreads across my face.
Last week was rough, but hopefully, we’re finding our way back. That no one worries about me going and getting the groceries is a good thing. With my access card in hand, I step into the elevator and press lobby.
When it stops on the sixth floor, I step back as my heart pumps a little harder. It never stops. The doors open, and Blake lifts his head from looking at his phone and sees me. His hard face softens, and he steps into the elevator. At the smell of his spicy cologne, I relax and draw in a breath.
The doors close and we continue down to the lobby.
“Grocery time?” Blake glances at me.
“Yes.” I brush my hands over my pencil skirt.
“Need any help?” His green eyes search mine. “I mean with the groceries. I don’t want you to think I don’t trust you, because I do.”
I smile softly. “I’ve got this, but thank you for the offer. Where are you headed?”
“I need to check on a few things.” Blake steps closer. His hand wraps around the back of my neck. “If you need me, call me, love.”
His lips collide with mine and my breath leaves me. For a second, it’s just him and me and everything is perfect. I never want this to end, but it’s just a moment. He steps back as the elevator reaches the lobby, but his heated gaze holds me for another breath.
A jolt of desire rushes through me. I step into the lobby and look for Fox. Blake’s fingers graze my hip as he brushes past me and heads to the receptionist. He leans his arms on the reception counter and gives her a smile meant to disarm her.
His gaze flicks to me. I don’t feel any jealous stirrings because I know he’s mine. Whatever he’s doing is for work and that’s all I need to know.
Fox comes through the double doors, wheeling in the groceries. His gaze bounces off Blake at the receptionist’s desk before it finds me. His smile is genuine as he heads my way.
“We have to stop meeting like this.” He gives me a cocky, flirty smile.
I just shake my head and grab a couple bags to load into the elevator. “I really need to introduce you to Hope. She’s my friend that works here.”
“Trying to pawn me off?” He tsks as he sets the bags next to mine. His eyes settle on my engagement ring, but he doesn’t mention it.
“I just think you two might hit it off.” I grab a few more bags.
“I’m game.” He grabs the last couple bags and sets them in the elevator. “Give me a minute, need to reload.”
He wheels the cart out of the building, and I lean against the wall, pulling out my phone.
Me:
Hey, remember when I told you about Fox?
Hope usually responds right away so I wait a minute. When I don’t get a response, I glance at the receptionist and Blake. She would know if Hope was in today. Hope didn’t mention anything yesterday when we were in the group chat about feeling sick.
