“As who or what?”

“Oh, Sunshine, take your pick.” I smile and start ticking off my fingers. “Personal wish ball, bestie, speed-dial fun, personal trainer, but I must warn you, my workouts all require naked bodies.”

“Of course they do,” she sasses back.

“Hmm, I promise they won’t disappoint. So? What’s it going to be?” I lean closer just as she backs away.

“Neither. I’m not going to sleep with you. So, it was nice to meet you. Thank you for the cocktail or…eh…water…whatever…bye.” She starts to get up from the chair, all flustered, but I catch her hand with mine and there goes that electric shock to my system once again.

Fuck, I am not letting her leave just like that.

Her eyes shoot up to mine and I see the equal parts of fear and desire swimming in those dark pools. She wants me just as much as I want her, but something has her scared and that just won’t do.

“What are you afraid of?” I ask without letting go of her hand. I know I was being bold just now, but I simply don’t waste time dancing around. Usually.

“Nothing,” she says too quickly.

“Come on, you can tell me. It’s not like you live here and will see me again. I’m off to college again tomorrow so I am the perfect person to unload to.”

“Well, that just solved the problem then because my unloading would take at least two full days. So, it’s a no go.”

She’s sassy, I like that. And not at all the warm sunshine I pegged her to be at the beginning. More like something with claws.

The question is, how sharp?

My lips curve up into a small smile. “Then let’s just play the game.”

She doesn’t seem all too keen on staying but at the same time she is no longer trying to release her hand from mine, and I am not eager to let go. So, we stay just like that. Her watching and calculating something inside her head and me still asking myself: What was that?

“Never have I ever slept with a girl,” she says all of a sudden, her face all serious but I see the little glint she’s got going in her eyes and I like that a whole lot better than the fear that was drowning out all the light from within her.

I shake my head while that small smile turns into a huge grin.

“First of all.” I lift up one finger. “We need to get some drinks going if we are playing. And secondly.” I lift up another finger. “Really?” I pretend to be offended by her comment while secretly throwing parades inside myself that she is playing along. “Did you have to stoop down to the teenage level?”

“First of all,” she imitates after me. Finger and all. “I don’t drink alcohol. And secondly, you just crawled out of the teenage crib, so it seemed fitting.”

“Oh, you are hilarious, Sunshine.” I grin at her. “Please don’t hold back,” I tell her and pull out the ingredients for non-alcoholic cocktails. But they still have some secret ingredients that I am counting on.

No, nothing illegal. Simply weird herbal concoctions my mother creates to induce them with secret powers. Her words, not mine and I’d question it if I didn’t see them actually work.

For example, we have a drink called Downer’s Luck. After you drink it, your luck turns up. I swear! Just ask Jimmy Jay who won a fucking lottery after drinking that crap. Or April who got married for the seventh time after drinking those the night before meeting the unlucky dude.

And so, the list goes on. We also have Cupid’s Arrow for falling in love, Mellow-Yellows for just relaxing and taking it easy, Fry is very self-explanatory as well and then there is The Eros Spell which we will be drinking.

What? I never said I’ll play fair.

“Never have I ever seen a dead body.”

“I swear I will burst from these cocktails if you keep going like that. Are you psychic or something?” I groan and take another sip of the red, extra sweet drink in front of me that somehow doesn’t make me nauseous.

“What?” He gapes at me. “When have you seen a dead body?”
