Sink With Me

“Just let me see what we’re doing!” I exclaim while reaching for my blindfold again, but my hands are smacked away harder than they were last time. The rain is light, but it’s still soaking through my clothes. We only drove for about three minutes, which means I could’ve walked wherever we went. Despite the way I can hardly hear the ocean anymore, I can still smell it.

There’s a small creaking noise and a shift that feels like a pathway change below my feet.

“Bloody hell, love, just breathe.” Caspian mumbles under his breath, clearly getting irritated with my impatience. Things have been tense, but only because I never want to stop working. It doesn’t help that Moe is always gone. I think there’s a girl, but he just groans when I ask and goes back to planning his next trip.

He took over the traveling aspect; we knew there were possibilities of people disagreeing with what we did because they couldn’t take advantage of those countries anymore, but we never thought Moe would be the one who stepped up and filled the role of handling the problems. He says until he’s needed in Tide’s position; he wants to do what he does best.

My foot stumbles when it bumps a step, making me grunt in irritation. It worries me some days more than others, but he smiles all the time so I won’t stop him. He always comes home when he’s ready. A door opens, making the humid air around me turn cooler while we step through a threshold.

“Don’t move. I mean it.” Caspian says, making a smile grace my lips as I shift on my feet just to prove a point that I don’t have to listen if I don’t want to. It’s quiet for a moment before a song carries through the surrounding area, making my breath catch.

I peek around the corner to catch a glimpse of one of the rare moments when my parents are quiet.

My father holds my mom close as they sway gently to the song. She wears a smile so wide that it reminds me of the way the sun shines. I cover my mouth to keep myself quiet when he says something that makes her laugh.

The way they look at each other makes me wish I was in the moment with them. Maybe one day I will be with a man who looks at me like I’m the only fish in the sea, just as he does her.

His hand finds the small of my back while he pushes his chest flush with mine. When he removes the blindfold, I’m not blinded by light but by the shine in his gorgeous green eyes.

“You’re not such a bad stalker after all.” I whisper, wrapping my arms around the back of his neck with a smile so genuine it made my face hurt. I don’t have to look when I can feel that I’m home.

“What can I say? I’m obsessed with you.” He says through a crooked grin. I roll my eyes at the statement only because I honestly don’t want to cry.

He sways me around for a bit, talking about how long it took to finish the place. I guess that explains why he’s been MIA so much. He even begrudgingly admitted to Jasmine helping him, which was no surprise. He knows me inside and out, but that doesn’t mean he has a good fashion sense. I probably would’ve lost my mind if I had seen the house filled with olive green.

“I take back what I said.”

Pulling from his arms, I walk to the large window in the living room with the perfect view of my white picket fence and the shore off in the distance. I glance back over my shoulder at him leaning against the wall. Even as time passes, I still can’t get over how he has the most stupidly beautiful face.

“You’re still an awful stalker. There’s no dog.” I grin through the words as his expression turns harder, making his shoulders tense enough that his scar peaks a little further off his neck.

“We have one. His name is Sam.” He pokes back, making my grin widen.

“That’s just rude.” I laugh through my words. He pushes from the wall, standing at his full towering height, making my thighs clench from the intimidating sight in front of me.

“I never claimed to be a good man.”

He says that but he’s not the monster that haunts my nightmares, he’s my dream come true. Sick tendencies as all. I roll my eyes at him, catching the motion of his nostrils flaring frustration.

“Come here, little siren.” He extends his hand, but I refuse to move, keeping a cocky smirk but it quickly fades into an innocent grin.

“Are you sure you want me close? I might bite.” I purr. His boot thumps off the wood floor with a step but I refuse to back down. He doesn’t scare me no matter how badly he wants to.

“I hope you do.” His voice drops to a low murmur that has my lip pulling between my teeth. We’ve been needing a place that gives us more privacy and room than our quarters at base. I’m almost positive if Jasmine were to interrupt another one of our nights with ‘girl talk’ he was going to burn the place to the ground. Thankfully, Sam has been more tentative to her after everything they went through in America so it’s not nearly as consistent as it was. Caspian’s fingers wrap around the curve of my waist jerking my chest into his.

“You promise?” The words caress my skin as he dips his head, brushing his lips along the length of my neck until he’s tracing the scar that stretches the expanse. I don’t care who put it there, it’s his. Another step forward forces mine back, my shoulder blades colliding with the windowpane.

“I need to ask you something.” my brows furrow from his whisper. The sound of a cars pulling into the driveway crunching the gravel has me turning my head to try and get a look at who could possibly be here. Did everyone know about this place except me? These assholes. Now whoever it is, is going to interrupt yet another moment. My head falls back against the window with an aggravated growl and a stomp of my foot while I clench my eyes shut like a stubborn child.

I peek a single eye open, squinting as I feel my hands gently pull with his body lowering to the ground. My heart is racing fast enough I’m afraid it might lodge itself in my throat. I never thought I’d see him in this position again letting me hold him captive while he kneels at my feet. My eyes dart between his with shallow breaths doing little to fill my lungs with air.

Oh God…

“My little siren,” He pauses with a grin going crooked as he reaches into his back pocket. “You left your mark on me long ago. I thought you’d be my demise; little did I know you were my salvation.”

My nose scrunches with a stifled laugh from the small wince he makes from the corny line. His lips brush against my palm, fracking me to commit every moment to memory. The rain paints the glass with soft light trying to break through the clouds creating beautiful shadows along his face. His scent mixes with mine making our house feel like home. I smile. A real one that I refuse to hide, my eyes creasing with the movement blurring my already teared vision.

“Say you’ll stay.”
