“I’m not scared of you.”
“And that’s your first mistake.”
I lift my chin. “I’m staying.”
He narrows his eyes and considers me. “Poppy, I’m going to do some fucked up shit. Shit little rabbits shouldn’t see.”
“I know.”
“Go the fuck upstairs, Poppy.”
“You’re going to get him to talk, and then you’re going to kill him.”
He cocks a brow as if to say ‘your point.’
“You shot a man for touching me tonight. I think I can handle this.”
I shove him away, grab my clothes, and get dressed. This time, I don’t bother with my underwear.
“I’m staying.”
“Fine,” he says, “but don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
Chapter
Twenty-Five
DAVIAN
Goddamn bloodthirsty rabbit.
Fucking Poppy.
Jesus.
Okay, I probably shouldn’t have fucked her in front of the guy I’m about to kill. The third one for her. But I did, and I don’t regret it. At all.
And Rabbit is leaning against the wall watching like she’s at a performance of Shakespeare.
A man could fall for a creature like her.
Hard and heavy.
She barely takes note of the gun I left on the bench, and it’s been a while since she tried to kill me. Does that mean it’s over? A girl’s taste for revenge? Against me?
I don’t know what she wants, and I don’t know what I want, either. The chase, the game, the bloodlust. Hunting her down to finally suck her bones dry, is that still my plan?
I don’t fucking know.
I’ve now killed for her. Shit, I’m going to fucking killfor her again, and I don’t know her exact end game. One thing I do know is we’re on borrowed time. She’s on borrowed time. And if this is to go to a deeper, darker level than it already has, all the artifice needs to be stripped away. I want her truth.
But right now, I’ve got another truth to get to—like why the fuck this guy and his dead buddy want Poppy.
There’s definitely a story, and I’m willing to bet it’s going to be something I don’t like.
I pull out a hidden box and open it, select the items I want, and come back to stand in front of the whimpering man. I cast him a cool look and lay out some tools I might need next to my gun.
Brass knuckles, pliers. Secateurs. A slender, long, sharp knife. A hunting knife.
