Primal Pursuit

I shower at her place—she’s out still, and I need to wash the hit off me. The stench of the guy. The act. It’s vile.

I dress, cook some ramen, pull up a chair to her door, and eat the shitty student food while I watch her sleep, as well as drinking the acid whiskey.

Murder always makes me hungry.

The very first time I did it—my fucking piece of shit father—I must have eaten half my weight.

This one’s a little anticlimactic, and also huge. Because, apart from my father, this is the only time I’ve killed for free. And it’s the only time I’ve killed for someone else.

I suppose you could say dear old Dad’s demise was for my sister, brother, and mother, but…they were also dead.

Rabbit’s very much alive.

The scene looks like a cash grab robbery, but…fuck. Do I need to call it in? Have a cleaning crew go in? That takes away potential for mess on one side, but opens up a world of mess on the other.

Alexius will know.

The Dark Sovereign will know.

I get my phone and dial.

“This better be fucking good, Stark,” Tobias says.

“Can you do confession over the phone, Father?”

“Are you fucking?—”

“Let’s pretend we can.” I take a breath. “Curse me Father, I done me a crime.”

“Oh, God, you killed her.”

I frown and take a swig of the whiskey. “Not the fucking rabbit, you cunt. She’s fine. Her landlord.”

“Her landlord?”

“The fat fuck tried to extort her, slammed her face into the wall, and had less than savory intensions with her.”

“Jesus.”

“She fought him, got him good, I think. But I went to have a chat with him. It…escalated.”

“Of course it did.” I can practically hear his eyes rolling.

“I made it look like a robbery and got her an alibi in case the cops start digging.”

“Do not tell me you took her with you.”

“Of course, I fucking didn’t. I drugged her.”

He starts laughing. “Jesus fuck, Davian.”

“The man has passed on, and?—”

“A freebie? You have to call it in.”

This time I frown as I take another swig. “Announce I didn’t charge someone for a hit?”

“No, asswipe, that you killed someone. You need clean-up.”
