Casually tuning Ed out, I checked my phone. 10 new text messages. Nearly 30 missed calls. 3 voicemails.
Shit.
“Hey, Ed?” I’m moving before Ed’s stopped talking, closing my laptop and shoving my phone into my suit pocket.
“Yeah, Gus—whatsa matter?” Ed pulls his reading glasses off his face, looking concerned.
“I gotta run, family emergency.” I don’t ask if I can leave or offer an additional explanation.
“I’ll catch up with you tomorrow,” I call over my shoulder, keen on collecting Cosmo and getting back to Tern’s Nest as quickly as possible.
As Cosmo and I get to the landing outside the nest at the top of the staircase, the air is already thick with the intermingled scents of Julian, Sol, and Daphne and the warm, animal smell of sex.
Not a moment later—our eyes are graced with the glorious sight of Sol filling Daphne completely—down to her core.
His hazel eyes flit from mine to Cosmo’s—locking together as he growls out, “Just in time.”
His knot presses against the pink ripple of Daphne’s pussy lips before disappearing inside her; Daphne grinds down eagerly on Sol’s knot as he cums inside her.
Cosmo makes a low, breathy sound beside me—his lip preparing to curl back into a sneer.
Sol and Daphne roll onto their sides, Sol, in the big spoon position, still locked inside Daphne as the two gasp to catch their breath.
Julian cuts around the back curve of the circular mattress dragging the pair of us to the side as Daphne and Sol attempt to recuperate from their athletic coupling.
“What the fuck took you so long?” Julian hisses venomously at us.
“My phone was completely off. You know how paranoid I am about it going off in an important meeting,” Cosmo pleads—his eyes wet with tears.
“I had no idea she had suddenly started her first heat—wasn’t she supposed to start tapering down in a few weeks?” Cosmo grabs Julian by the shoulders, his wobbly voice underscoring the genuine nature of his concern.
Instead, Julian turns his accusing green eyes on me.
“Yeah I know someone who never has their phone on silent.” He glares at me.
“Not to mention I opened the vid link to Tern’s Nest and you didn’t close it—you just left that shit up and running in the background,” Julian adds bitingly.
I know I’ve really fucked this one up, because Cosmo turns toward me in slow motion—his eyes narrow and his mouth stretches in a thin, downturned line.
“All of those missed calls were from Julian and Sol?” his voice is so low that it’s barely above a whisper.
I nod. Cosmo swallows and takes a deep, slow breath.
“And what Julian’s saying about the cameras?” His calm masks his deep, cold rage—but I know him well enough to know it’s there.
“It’s true. I didn’t realize what was happening. It doesn’t excuse my error in judgment, but it is what it is.” I hold his gaze.
“You bet it doesn’t excuse,” Cosmo begins–but he’s cut off by the sound of Sol’s voice rising above our whispered skirmish.
“What’s the matter, Sunshine?” he croons, Daphne’s soft sobs and sniffles just audible beneath the comforting lilt of Sol’s voice.
All of our eyes snap to the bed, Daphne still held against Sol—her back to his chest, his knot still holding them linked together.
“It’s gonna sound so stupid if I say it out loud,” Daphne blubbers as Julian, Cosmo, and I drift toward the bed. Once she catches sight of us, she only cries harder, covering her face.
“None of you are going to understand!” she warbles, shaking her head.
“What makes you say that?” Julian purrs, sitting down at the crescent edge of the massive circular mattress.
