I’d learned that the last time.
Something shifted in Grayson’s eyes, but before I could discern what it was, he grinned that sexy Grayson grin, and nodded. “Of course,” he said, switching me shower spots so he could rinse off.
I smiled in return, exiting the shower and grabbing my towel, feeling the best I’d felt in a long time.
Maybe this weekend wouldn’t be so bad after all.
CHAPTER 28
Henry
I toasted Mia with a glass of Rosé, some of it slightly sloshing out of my glass.
Grayson was animatedly telling a story about some weekend with his sister where they both ended up lost in a vineyard, the whole group roaring with laughter.
I watched him with drink-infused eyes, and my heart raced. Everywhere he went, he commanded attention, exuded authority.
I’d never been with anyone like him and that was as thrilling as it was scary. Because outside of the bubble Grayson and I had somehow built, I could see him the way everyone else did. And I could see how drastically different we were. But there was a spark within me that continuously burned, reminding me that the Grayson everyone else saw, wasn’t the real Grayson.
Just like the me everyone else saw, wasn’t the real me.
That spark, only made me want him more. It made me want to push and pull him, only to come undone under his command in private, pushed to my own limits. I wanted the Grayson who opened up to me, who was gentle and sweet when it mattered the most.
I wanted the sexy GQ model man who knew how to get me off with a mere look.
I wasn’t one to drink usually, and I didn’t think tasting would get me so off my rocker. The world was spinning, and the music was playing from the live band, and the sun was shining.
For the first time in what felt like forever, I felt alive.
As Grayson wrapped up his story, we all headed to the courtyard of the resort itself. Paved in stone with tents spread all across the field, it was a sight to behold. The resort was packed. With the wine festival being one of the biggest events of the year, apparently.
Thankfully, Giselle and her future husband had taken care of everything. I’d never had the chance to be on an exclusive, all paid vacation before, and though I’d offered to pay for my dome, Mia and Giselle thwarted my offering every chance I brought it up. After the fire the first night, I stopped, if only because Mia was getting exasperated at my insistence.
We all traipsed over to the picnic table in the center of the stone courtyard, the only one that was visibly empty due to the reserved sign on it. The girls threw down their purses in a flash as their dates settled with the boxes of the wine purchases everyone had made. “Come dance with me!” Mia said, tugging on Giselle’s arm.
“I’ll dance with you,” I said, sweeping in to grab my sister as Giselle tumbled back into Aaron with a giggle.
“Come on, you lush,” I teased as I hooked my arm in hers, pulling her up toward the dance floor.
“We’ll be right behind you!” Julie called out.
When we finally reached the dance floor, my sister seemed to have forgotten all about her friend.
I spun her around and she laughed, throwing her head back in joy.
“Are you having a good time?” I asked.
Mia’s smile was bright. “The best time. How about you?”
I couldn’t help but return her smile genuinely.
“I can’t remember the last time I had this much fun,” I said as I spun her out and then back in to my arms.
And for the first time in my life, it felt like the sky was the limit.
