Comp's Chance

I pat the loaded gun currently sitting in my backpack before touching the hunting knife at my hip, hidden by my huge hoody. I have to do something; I won’t rest until he’s taken care of.

I go over my plan in my head over and over again until I realize it’s been five hours, and the bus is pulling to a stop. I hop off and make my way toward the payphone at the back of the bus station. I place money into it and dial Jason’s office phone. The receptionist lets me know he isn’t in. I wasn’t sure if he’d be at his office here or somewhere else, so I plan to call around until I find him. I make one more call to his home phone and he picks up.

“Hello?” he answers. His voice, the evil in it, sends chills down my spine but strengthens my resolve. I’ve come here today with one thing on my mind, the ending. After today, I know I will either be dead or in jail, but my baby girl and the club will be safe. I’m ending this shit now.

I hang up the phone, sling my backpack over my shoulder, and head straight for his house, straight for Jason’s demise… and mine.

HALLE

“Alright, my ride or die bitches… it’s time to load the fuck up,” I yell into the kitchen, looking expectantly at Piper and Izzy. They both turn and give me a what the fuck are you talking about look, but I don’t let that stop me.

“What kind of trouble are you trying to cause today, Halle?” Piper asks, smiling.

“Not me this time,” I tell them, smiling proudly. Again, they raise their brows at me, but I keep pushing fucking forward.

“Sunny was acting shady this morning. I didn’t really know what was going on, but I knew she was up to something, so I followed her. She snuck into the SUV the prospects took to Devil’s Crossroads. I think she’s going to take care of business with her ex; just a guess, though. I figured she needs some backup,” I tell the women. “I already called Becky. She said she would love to come and watch the kids for us and will be here in about five minutes. Rae and Rome are watching Jett and Bronx sleeping in their bassinet in the playroom,” I say, smiling.

Becky is a teacher at one of the local middle schools who comes to the compound a few days a week to tutor the older kids. Swift has been looking for people to help watch over the kids, and she fits the bill. Swift contacted her, offered a shit tonof money, and she accepted. Now, she watches the kids, and they all adore her. We love her as well, though I think there’s one person whose feelings go a bit deeper, but he’s playing it off like nothing’s changed. Becky doesn’t even seem to notice him, and I laugh at the annoyed face he gets. We can tell she’s holding back, hiding something. Swift mentioned that he thinks she’s running from something in her past and wants the club to look out for her. At first, we were worried, seeing as she would be watching the kids. Now, we know and love her better. She’s still hiding something, but she’s loyal to the club and loves the kids so much.

“We should go let the men…” she starts, but I shake my head.

“Not this time. It’s our girl that’s in trouble. We protect her,” I say, crossing my arms.

“What’s happening?” Izzy asks, stepping forward.

“I’ll explain in the car. Come on, we need to get on the road. Are you guys in?” I ask, tucking the knife I’ve been flipping back into my side. They look at each other before turning back to me.

“We’re in,” they say in unison.

“Alright, we’ll take my jeep. Piper, you call Swift from the car. Let him know we went to spend the whole day shopping. Sunny was still asleep when we left. That should buy us some time,” I tell them as we rush out front to my car. I hop in as the women do the same, Piper in the front and Izzy in the back. We speed off, and once we’re on the road, Piper calls Swift, putting him on speakerphone.

“Where did you go? I thought we had plans to…” Swift says, answering the phone.

“Uhh… the girls and I went shopping, and you’re on speakerphone,” Piper interrupts.

“You went shopping? Without letting me know? Without protection? Sunny…” he starts again, but I cut him off.

“Is sleeping in her room all safe and secure. Nothing to worry about,” I tell him, then hear Loki on the other end.

“Pet, you should have told me! If you wanted to shop, I could definitely spend a few hours watching you try on lingerie, lacy panties, crotchless…”

“Okay, that’s enough imaging to last me a lifetime,” Izzy interrupts him. “We are shopping for house décor.”

“Angel, I could have driven you if you needed to go. Did you at least take your cane, just so…” Hitter starts, but I cut him off too.

“Alright, fellas, see, this is why we needed a shopping trip. Nothing against you fine hunks of men…”

“Pet…” Loki warns, soaking my panties. Fuck, I can only imagine the trouble I will be in when he figures out where we’re really going. I smile and sigh a bit, hearing him chuckle.

“Anyway,” I say, shaking my head and putting on my stern voice. “You men are amazing and wonderful, blah, blah, blah and all that shit, but we need a break from you and the kids. Becky is watching them; we will be back in a few hours. Good?” I ask, not really expecting an answer.

“You have three hours,” Swift says shortly. I scoff.

“Three hours, my ass. Don’t make me double that time just to piss you guys off,” I shout.

“Fuck, Loki, get your fucking woman. We have enemies trying to get to us. They’ll come through anyone they need to,” Swift says, getting worked up.
