Becca laughed and pulled him into another kiss.
“Did that feel like the kiss of a fiancé or an ex-girlfriend?”
Chris smiled, “It felt like my future wife.”
“I can’t wait to marry you,” she said.
“Let’s get home and you can tell me all about your time on the island.”
“Wait. We can’t go just yet. I have to wait for my bag.”
“What do you mean? I thought you just had a carryon?”
Becca saw her new luggage on the carousel and walked to get it. Chris followed her and looked confused. “Where did this come from?”
She looked at her suitcase and smiled. “This right here is the answer I went looking for. Everything I am, is in this suitcase.”
Christopher didn’t understand what Becca meant but it didn’t matter. All he knew was that the love of his life had come home and soon they’d be husband and wife. Whatever was in that suitcase was magic as far as he was concerned. Magic and a miracle.
CHAPTER 23
With the wedding one week away, Maggie didn’t really have time to attend many of the Christmas Fair events, but since she promised and her grandchildren wanted to see her, she and Paolo dressed in red and green and headed out to walk toward the main area of activity.
At the intersection of Andy Rosse Lane and Captiva Drive, traffic was backed up as cars navigated the road and fought for parking spaces.
The boat dock and marina parking lot were bustling with booths adorned with colorful decorations that showcased an array of local crafts and delicacies.
Maggie looked at some of the displays, with Paolo constantly reminding her that they didn’t have one inch of room in either the inn or the carriage house for anything she considered buying.
“I haven’t taken out my wallet and you’re already complaining. I won’t walk with you if you’re going to ruin my fun.”
They slowly walked by each booth before deciding to head down to The Mucky Duck to meet up with Sarah’s family.
It was rumored that Santa Claus was going to make an appearance at that spot and the excitement was palpable.
This was Maggie’s second Christmas Fair and although the inn wasn’t technically participating in the day’s activities, she carried her Key Lime Garden Inn canvas tote to advertise, nonetheless.
“Subtle, Mom,” Sarah said, as she shook little Maggie’s rattle.
“What? There’s no harm in showing how beautiful the inn is. I had these especially made because Chelsea thinks the inn ought to have a gift shop.”
“I think that’s a great idea. I don’t know why we didn’t think of that before.”
“You know Chelsea, she’s always got something cooking in that brain of hers. Speak of the devil, there she is.”
Chelsea’s red hat, with Christmas lights wrapped around it, blinked on and off as she approached.
“Don’t laugh. I thought it was a good idea when I bought it from the Captiva Emporium. Now that it’s on my head, I’m not so sure.”
“Nonsense, you look festive,” Maggie said.
“At least Carlo will be able to find me.”
“Oh? Carlo is coming to the Christmas Fair?” Sarah asked.
“Yeah, he said he’d be here. I don’t know if he meant it. I think he was just trying to be polite.”
“Don’t be silly. I bet he’ll be here soon,” Sarah said.
