Finally, I meet Seth’s eyes and see resignation in his. My heart hurts a little at the ache in his eyes.
“I’m not saying all the time, boss.” I press my lips against his briefly. Sparks float along my veins, and his hard cock twitches beneath me. “Just every now and then. With friends. Not alone.”
I spent the past four years alone on campus. Studying in the library. Working jobs but keeping my head down and focusing on what was important. Graduating before I ended up with a pile of debt. Scholarships helped, but I still have debt which this job will help pay off.
I don’t want to hang out by myself anymore. I want to find friends who can know me. The real me with all my flaws and problems. I want to have the ability to discuss with them my feelings about these wonderful men.
“How about we take it on a case-by-case basis?” Seth concedes.
I grin and kiss him again. This time he takes control of the kiss, making it last longer than a second and stoking the fire sizzling inside me into a bonfire. Seth’s kisses are as controlled as he is, but just as dangerous.
When he breaks off the kiss, I sigh and trace my thumb over his smooth jaw.
“But maybe not today, princess. You should stay here.”
My eyes lock with his. “Of course.”
Chapter 105
Don’t Go There
Madison
“Hey.” I greet Hope at the lobby door. The guys all went up to the office to work after lunch and left me alone in the apartment until Hope arrived. It’s a small win for me.
“Hey.” Her messy bun has tendrils falling around her face. She clutches her phone like it’s her lifeline. She smiles at me, but it doesn’t reach the worried look in her eyes.
“I . . .” Hope sighs and looks over her shoulder. She nibbles on her lip. “Do you think . . . ? No, you probably shouldn’t . . .”
She bites her lip and looks over her shoulder again. I step aside to let her into the lobby. Worry tugs at her brow as the door closes.
“What’s going on?” I don’t move from beside the door. Something is weighing on her.
“It’s Jason.” She releases a heavy breath. “He isn’t answering his texts. I tried calling on the way over here and got nothing. I was going to stop by the bar, but I didn’t want to be late to meet you and…”
“Do you want me to go to the bar with you?”
Things fall into place. I’m not supposed to leave the building, but Hope desperately wants to check on her brother. I’m not sure why she’s worried, but everything about her screams she’s on the verge of panic.
“I can’t ask you to do that.” Hope shakes her head and lifts her phone. She smiles as she lowers it. “I’ll try him again in a half hour. I’m sure he’s fine.”
She heads toward the elevator, glancing at the blank screen of her phone again.
“We could just pop over there,” I blurt out. “It’s not far.”
She spins to face me with a relieved smile. “You think? The guys won’t mind? I’d go by myself, but I’m afraid of what I might find.”
The bank of elevators is close. I could go up and get one of them to come with, or even call one of them. But it’s daylight and the bar is only a block away. They need to concentrate to figure out who the mole is.
Besides, what could possibly happen on a sunny Sunday afternoon?
Fuck, why did I have to think that? That seems like something the stupid chick would say in a horror movie.
“We’ll be fast. Ten minutes, maybe fifteen. I’ll text them to let them know we’ve gone.” I open the door and her shoulders relax. Blake will need to let me back in.
“Thank you.” She hurries outside and I follow, making sure the door shuts behind us.
I pull out my phone.
