“Keep looking at me like that, sweetheart, and we’ll be finding another dark corner.” He smirks.
I shake my head. “I think people will get suspicious if we keep disappearing.”
Coop lowers his head like he’s going to say something when a large man bumps into his back. His brow furrows as he turns us to see who ran into him.
“Pardon me.” Heath Duncan gives us both a huge grin as he moves his partner into step beside us. She’s barely half his size with a curvy body, blond hair, and brown eyes. Her sparkly blue dress has a slit up the side. “You remember Becca, right?”
My eyes widen, recalling the phone call. Coop fucked me during that phone call, and when he mentioned he was seeing someone, Heath asked if it was Becca.
Coop laughs. “Always a pleasure.”
Becca grins at Coop like he’s her date and not Heath.
“I figured you were done with her since you said you had a date.” Heath’s blue eyes rake over my body, like he’s imagining me naked.
I close the distance between Coop and me.
“You remember our new assistant, Madison?”
“Of course. She’s a hard one to forget.” Heath winks at me.
The guys continued to speak while Becca gives me a once-over before dismissing me and giving Coop a seductive smile. Who was this woman to him? I forgot to ask him after the phone call. She definitely wants to be on Coop’s arm tonight. Or at least in his bed.
Not that I blame her. The things he can do to me always make me come back for more. So while I don’t blame her, he’s not hers to want.
This man is mine, so I arch my eyebrow at her to back off my man. She raises her eyebrows at my look. I’m sure many have tried to claim Coop before, but this time he’s mine and I won’t share him.
“It’s not official yet,” Coop’s voice registers.
“Well, congratulations are in order.” Heath’s words are loud and boisterous. Heads turn on the dance floor. I catch sight of Noah and Sara dancing. It’s dancing, so they have to stand that close together. There’s no other reason.
My chest aches, and I lean into Coop, letting his solid frame hold me.
“When you know, you know.” Coop rubs his hand down my back, bringing me back to the strange conversation.
Becca outright glares at me now. What’s up her butt?
Ew, I remembered them commenting about her butt on the phone and really don’t want to think about that now.
“I can’t wait to console the weeping beauties at your wedding.” Heath slaps Coop on the shoulder. “We’re doing lunch this week, so you can tell me about your whirlwind affair. Maybe you should bring your little lady with you.”
Heath winks at me.
Wedding? What the hell is he talking about?
Chapter 89
Train Wreck
Madison
Coop maneuvers us away from Heath, but that brings us closer to Noah and Sara. I refuse to look at them dancing. My stomach lurches at the sound of Sara’s laugh. Coop leans in close to my ear.
“Just go with it. We’ll discuss it more at home.” Coop lifts his head and gazes down into my eyes. For a second, I get a little lost in his smiling eyes. That feeling of being connected with Coop surges inside me.
“I’m not sure what’s going on,” I admit.
When the song finishes, Coop takes my hand and places it in the crook of his elbow. Before we take a step, a gorgeous woman in black and a man stop in front of us.
