Boss Me (Private Listing #3)

Fuck. Last night was another nightmare. I stayed calm during the evacuation because it was likely a faulty circuit or some other computer error. But then that shadow person appeared. Maybe it was someone, maybe it was my imagination. I roll to the edge of the bed and head into the bathroom.

I do the best I can with my hair and brush my teeth with one of the toothbrushes Noah bought last night. When I near the bedroom door, I can hear the guys talking. I don’t hesitate to go into the living room.

“Security went through the entire building. If someone got in, they didn’t leave a trace.” Blake’s voice is low. He glances over at me and gives me a small smile. “Morning, tiger.”

“Were they able to do a locked-down sweep before anyone arrived for work?” Seth gestures for me to join them.

I head to the table. There’s a seat open next to Noah and I drop into it. Noah puts his warm hand on my thigh and gives me a squeeze.

“Yes, and the police had the place on lock until the security team arrived.”

“Did either of you see what Madison saw?” Seth turns to Noah and Coop. Everyone is dressed in the clothes they hurriedly threw on last night. Noah shakes his head. It was really dark with a lot of lights spinning around. I wouldn’t be surprised if neither of them noticed the person.

“No, but I wasn’t focused on the building.” Coop sighs. “It’s possible whoever she saw had no intentions of going into our building. They could have been leaving the area since the police were present.”

“I’m pretty sure I saw someone, but it was dark. Even if I saw someone, like Coop said, it might not be related.” I shrug and reach for the carafe of coffee to fill my mug, but Noah beats me to it and pours my cup.

“As much as I’d like to believe it’s a coincidence, it’s a little too perfect with the timing.” Blake threads his hand through his hair. His green eyes are heavy with lack of sleep.

The urge to drag him back to bed is strong. Though sleep wouldn’t be my only intention.

“I have a crew going through the lines to find out how the alarms both failed. Again, one alarm I might dismiss, but two going off? That’s tampering.”

“They didn’t find anyone in the building.” Seth leans back in his chair while he studies me. “That doesn’t mean someone didn’t try to get in though. Maybe they saw the police and thought better of it.”

I nod slightly and take a small sip of coffee. It was late and dark. I was shivering and saw Seth. The movement out of the corner of my eye caught my attention. A figure dressed in black moved in the shadows and the swirling light from the emergency vehicles. I’m positive I saw someone, and they were sneaking.

“Madison.”

I jerk at Seth’s voice. “Yeah?”

“Are you okay?” His tone softens and his gaze roams over me.

I straighten in my chair and look around at the concerned eyes focused on me. “Sorry, still a little tired, I think. What did I miss?”

“Lunch today.” Seth meets my gaze and holds it. “With William and Hunter.”

Any appetite I have leaves at the mention of Hunter. I always knew telling William wouldn’t change much. Especially if I worked there full-time. It would’ve just made Hunter sneakier. But I don’t work for him. He’s a client of the company I work for and therefore represent.

I force a smile. “Great.”

“You don’t leave my side for anything.” Blake’s voice is dark. “He may have his father convinced he’s sorry, but I don’t believe it for a minute.”

Blake’s green eyes fix on mine. We’re in tune on this. “I won’t leave your side.”

Chapter 108

Punt

Blake

The morning flew by as I tried to sort through everything the security crew found. I also have a team reviewing the last few days of camera footage to make sure no one unusual was on the premises.

When I come out of my office for lunch, Madison stands next to her desk. Her smile is warm for me even as lines of worry crease her forehead. I’m not looking forward to this lunch.

Seth keeps dressing her and doing an awesome job. She has her blond hair pulled into a bun with little tendrils falling next to her ears. Except for those killer red lips, her makeup is light. Her blouse is a white satiny button-down, tucked into a black high-waisted pencil skirt. Her nylons are a sheer black, ending in black stilettos with red bottoms.

She’s a knockout. If we had time, I’d bend her over my desk and make her forget all about Hunter Adams. Her cheeks flush pink as if she knows exactly what I’m thinking.
