I settle on a dom/sub book. I pluck my lip as I read. It’s one about a girl learning she likes to be submissive and the dom who teaches her. I keep envisioning Blake as the dom. Giving orders, punishing her, punishing me. This scene, he’s letting someone else use her while he watches.
“Madison!” Blake’s voice startles me.
I drop my Kindle on my lap and take my fingers off my lip. He smirks at me.
“I said your name at least three times.”
His eyes fall on the Kindle, which thankfully went black when it dropped. Because that page had a whole lot of sex on it. It feels like I should be working, not reading. Reading still feels decadent to me.
“Sorry, I was reading.” I straighten. “Do you need me?”
“We could use someone to pull some files.” He arches his eyebrow.
I take a deep breath and shake off the arousal from reading the book. Work. I can work. “Sure. Do I need to change?”
Standing, I hold my hands out to the side. I’m still wearing my sundress.
“What you’re wearing is fine. Might want some shoes, though.”
Giving him an embarrassed smile, I look down at my bare feet, then hurry to my room to grab some sandals.
When I get back to him, he takes my hand and leads me to the elevator. I follow him in. “We’re looking through clients right now and need some of the work files that haven’t been scanned into the system. They’re from a few years ago.”
The elevator stops, and I follow Blake into Seth’s office.
Seth raises his eyes to me. “Sorry to call you in.”
“No problem. I’m always happy to help.” I straighten and smile. “Do you have a list and where are the files?”
“The files are on the main floor. Usually people don’t work on the weekend, so it should be empty. Room 400. Here’s the list.” Seth hands it to me.
When I turn to head to the elevator, Blake steps next to me like he’s going to go down with me.
“Blake, I need you to pull up the schematics on the Andersen project.”
Blake’s fingers flex against my back, and he looks down at me.
“I’ll be fine.” They really haven’t let me out of their sights since the incident. “I’m sure no one is in the office. The building is secure, right?”
Blake nods, and I give a small smile to him and then Seth before heading to the elevator.
For a moment, I consider going upstairs to find my phone before heading down. This dress doesn’t have pockets, so I have nowhere to keep it. Why waste the time? I’d probably put it down somewhere and forget it, anyway. If I need one of them, there are computers everywhere and phones on the desks.
The elevator ride is a little longer than between the office and apartment. I step out onto the vacant floor. It’s weirdly quiet with no one here. The lights are on, so I assume one of the guys has been down here already. The paper in my hand crinkles as I walk down the carpeted hall. A slight buzz from the lights is the only other sound as I make my way around the outside hallway until I find room 400.
I slide my access card in the slot, and it flashes green. Grinning, I push open the door. I still get a little rush at being able to access rooms.
The room is huge, with rows of filing cabinets. Letting the door close behind me, I get to work. I almost wish I’d changed and grabbed my phone. Being in here alone is too quiet. Some music would be nice.
The filing cabinets emit a metallic sliding noise every time I open the drawers. The monotony of the task lulls me as I move from cabinet to cabinet to find the proper file for the client they want. I hear a door slam and I jump.
Setting the files on top of the filing cabinet, I hold my breath, waiting for some other noise. My heart pounds so loud I almost miss the footsteps. I glance around for something to defend myself with, but there’s nothing in here.
“Hello?” My voice wavers as I call out. I back up against the filing cabinet nearest me and stare in the direction of the footsteps. Should I have stayed quiet rather than letting whoever is here know where I am?
“Where are you, sweetheart?”
Coop’s voice makes me inhale as relief pours through my body.
